Board of Directors Monthly Meeting Minutes
18 January 2010
Attendees: Sunny Webster, Sheilah Grant, Jon Fortman, Bill Benge, Virginia Waddell, Anne Dolson, Judy Stempel, Craig Landy
Absent: Malinda Crumley
Meeting called to order: 6:38 PM
Social:
Christmas in the park discussed in terms of cost in relation to the level of attendance. General feeling is that this is not well attended enough for us to continue the event. We feel we should just light the tree in December and nothing else. That month is too busy for most people. Board voted to discontinue Christmas in the Park and Easter in the Park. We like the September gathering at Tres Jose…that was well worth the cost. We feel we should keep 4th of July. Sheila mentioned doing a few mixers per year to bring folks together at area restaurants; get the restaurants to foot some of the bill or maybe all of the food bill. Sheila will put together a proposal with restaurants listed.
Landscaping:
Virginia Waddell: put up two wreaths at the entrance that looked real nice.
Development and Zoning:
Judy Stempel: Said she attended the West Side Alliance meeting. The meeting was for zoning changes from multi to single units to keep out businesses.
Treasury:
Anne Dolson: passed out report of finances.
Membership:
Bill Benge: passed around postcard samples that will go in the mail tomorrow. They look great!! This is for the Jan 25 meeting which will feature Quentin McGown. We should consider sending some of these to the other adjacent neighborhood assoc.: Arl. Heights, Crestwood, N Hi Mount, Crestline. This will go to paid members as a mailing. We could put this in the Fort Worth Weekly and the Fort Worth Forum.
Other Business:
Sunny passed out general membership meeting schedule for the coming year.
Jan 25 meeting will not have committee reports.
Discussed general membership meetings: Feeling is that, unless there is an issue or entertainment, the attendance will not be big. Craig noted that the purpose of the association is to bring together members according to the bylaws. Thus, if the general meetings are not fulfilling this, then we should consider alternative actions or events.
Gas Leasing: Sunny is getting calls from neighborhood people wanting to find out what is going on but her response is that we don’t have anything organized. We feel unless someone wants to form a committee then the association should stay out of it.
Anne mentioned she has a friend (civil engineer) that is considering the zoning position with the city. We thought this would be positive.
Speaker suggestion by Sunny: maybe someone from Botanic Gardens for a spring meeting.
Presentation for the newsletter discussed. Sheila presented her version of a close mock-up of what the newsletter might look like. Sheila would handle getting ads and pay for setup out of her own pocket. Brook from N2 Publishing also had a presentation from the previous board meeting. Anne mentioned she was a bit uncomfortable with the fact that Brook did not have journalism experience or back ground. Both would be published monthly. Both would be at zero cost for the association. Sunny asked Sheila to email around a proposal for her publication. Also we will look at n2pub.com. We’ll decide as a board on which one to go with.
Web: this is such a big subject we will defer to next meeting.
Next board meeting: Feb 3, 2010
Adjourned: 7:36 pm
Recording secretary: Jon Fortman
